During the rolling process in the aluminium and steel industries, the thickness of the strip must be measured in real-time in order to maximize product consistency and to achieve the best possible yield.
Traditionally, these measurements were made using isotope-based gauging frames. Today, thanks to improvements in technology, reliable, contact-free measurements can be made with X-rays. Isotopes, however, have the big disadvantage that transport and handling are dangerous and a large number of government regulations apply. Our X-ray modules provide a safe and hassle-free alternative to isotopes, with fewer worries and regulations around their use, storage and transport.
COMET has a long experience working with key systems providers in the metal gauging industry. Our X-ray modules are recognized by our partners as being highly stable, reliable and very long-lived.

The high stability of the X-ray dose is the key requirement for ensuring highly accurate thickness gauging. Due to the demanding environment of the rolling mills, which is characterized by 24x7 operations, huge temperature variations and high humidity, the X-ray tubes and modules must be robust, reliable and easy to handle.
